PARK Lions FC have been experiencing the benefits of new equipment thanks to a donation from McDonald's franchisee David Balcombe.

The Barry football club have a mini and junior teams competing in the under-8 and under-14 leagues. The teams were in need of footballs to use in their regular practice sessions at the Butts playing field and asked Vale MP Alun Cairns if he could help. Mr Cairns contacted Mr Balcombe who donated 30 new footballs.

Mr Balcombe runs 10 McDonald's franchises across South Wales, including the Barry branch on the junction of Cardiff Road and Port Road. He is passionate about helping grassroots football in conjunction with McDonald’s campaign to support local sport.

Organiser of Park Lions FC, Carmine Ianucci, invited Mr Balcombe and Mr Cairns to an informal ceremony with the young players at the Butts playing fields to give thanks for the new balls.

Mr Balcombe said: "Park Lions FC is a great football club that is dedicated to helping young players from the area enjoy the game. I am pleased to be able to help the club out this season and it was great to meet some of the young players and learn more about their passion for football.’’

Mr Cairns said: "Grassroots clubs such as Park Lions FC are invaluable in helping young players get in to sport and improve their skills and confidence. It’s fantastic the players’ local McDonald’s has been able to provide them with some new equipment this season and I wish them all the best in their upcoming matches.’’
