MORE than 120 girls took part in this year's Vale of Glamorgan Council's football festival, run in partnership with Barry Town United Ladies FC.

Girls between the ages of six and 15-years-old headed to St Cyres School to take part.

No medals or prizes were given out as the emphasis was placed on the enjoyment and development of the players.

The festival was run by the Vale of Glamorgan Sport Development team alongside Barry Town United Ladies FC.

Rachel Shepherd, Active Young People co-ordinator for the council, said: "It’s fantastic to see so many girls enjoying playing football in the Vale of Glamorgan.

"We’ve seen a steady increase in the number of girls who are accessing football in their schools and communities over the past few years.

"A huge amount of credit is due to Barry Town United Ladies FC for their commitment to growing the game in the area, along with the other clubs in the Vale who provide girls only and mixed opportunities in the sport.”
