TWO of the Vale of Glamorgan Pool league's best sides played out a 5 - 5 draw with both teams putting in a strong performance.

The Witchill Hotel took no time in getting a 2 - 0 lead, but were soon pegged back by Graham Avaient and Ade Leadbetter for the Cocopops.

In frame five, Chris Bardsley made it 3 - 2 to the Witchill and now Cocopops had to dig deep.

The next three frames were too close to call with Pete Lewis then Avaient then Leadbetter all winning to give Cocopops a 5 - 3 lead.

Now with their backs against the wall Witchill had to fight hard, in the final frame Chris Bardsley and Ian hill won comfortably in the double and the honours ended up being shared.

The Billy captained by Ceri Morris had another fine 7 - 3 victory this time against the Tadcross Hotel.

That's three straight wins in a row for the in form Billy, with strong performances from Ian Roberts, Tony Mullins and Ross Jones.

What turned out to be a close and fraught night at the Borough Arms, involving one frame being replayed, it was a 6 - 4 defeat for Finnegans.

Borough's standout players were Churchill, Meadows, Ashton and Gavin Rowlands. This was a very good week for Gavin who a few days later would go on and knockout Ian Hill 2 - 0 in the singles competition.

Ian Hill, one of the favourites to win this year's singles tournament was a little unlucky, but will have to wait another year.

Also through to the next round are Mike Dunn, Les Mason, Gary Roberts and Leah Fraher. All singles games to be completed by Saturday, December 10.

The league is asking for all captains to sort out their doubles teams and get them registered before the end of December.

This week's standout fixtures sees Cocopops travel to Ian Doel's Finnegans and the Borough Arms home to the Billy.

The league is still looking for players of all capabilities to join, compete and have fun.
