ON SUNDAY, October 2, seven Special Olympics Wales golfers set off from their home club of St Andrews Major Golf Club for the Special Olympics West Midland Golf Tournament to be held in Bromsgrove Golf Club the following day on Monday, October 3.

First to tee off were the 18 hole division one players made up of Matthew Sims from Cardiff, Sam Lazensbury from Barry and Matthew Prewett from Lavernock. The top prize, which was very close, saw Sam Lazenbury taking the title by one stoke with a round of 95, from second place Matthew Sims 96 and in third place Matthew Prewett.

The next golfers were in the nine hole competition division one, with another closely fought competition with only four stokes between the first and fifth places. James Savory was fourth, Mark Eveleigh sixth and Gareth Lloyd in seventh place, with all three golfers coming from Barry.

The final golfer was Adrian Abbott from Llantwit Major who took the gold medal place in the nine hole division three competition.

The golfers now return to St Andrew Major Golf Club to prepare for the next competition under the watchful eye of golf professional John Hasting. The golfers would like to take this opportunity to thank the members and staff of the St Andrews Major golf club for the warm welcome they receive at the club every week.
