Dynamo Aber 3 - Cadoxton Barry FC 5

Scorers: Dawson 2, Thompson, Morgan, Harris Jnr

THERE can't be many sides at this level and above that find themselves trailing 3 - 0 at half-time, yet still find themselves taking over the leadership of the table by the end of the day. But that is exactly what happened in the case of Cadoxton Barry on Saturday, September 17.

A promising start indicated that CB were about to dictate proceedings territorially. Notwithstanding five lapses during the course of the first half, that is exactly what happened and they were lapses that could have had the gravest of consequences for CB - a defeat.

Going forward most of the time, CB's rearguard were taking a high line which allowed the Aber defence to catch them out as they continually cleared their lines by pumping long balls over the top. On one such occasion the ball bounced high and beyond 'keeper Carpenter's reach to head towards an open goal.

Luck would have it that the ridiculously long and uncut grass took some of the pace off it, allowing Eastman time to chase back to make a tremendous clearance from directly under the bar.

That should have been lesson learned, but following a solo run on the Aber goal by Morgan in which he was forced wide, the clearing punt once again beat the defence to see the ball bouncing, in similar fashion to the first occasion, towards an unguarded goal.

But this time - substitute Donnelly for Eastman - the goal line clearance didn't find safety, as an Aber forward was quick to return the rebound with interest, seeing a fine rising shot enter the CB net off the underside of the cross bar.

Only two minutes later, in the 26th minute, Aber found themselves two to the good as one of their rare build-ups through the field ended with a free kick being awarded two yards beyond the box and slightly towards the right. It was a beautifully struck shot that had dip and curl, leaving Carpenter no chance as it found the far right of the CB net.

CB resumed their offensive to see a Morgan corner from the right curl inwards before bouncing to safety from the top of the Aber cross bar. But back came Aber as a quality surge by the right winger saw his cross set up a goalmouth scramble from which the ball popped out nicely to allow Aber to take a chip that dipped into the CB net over the head of Carpenter and the CB defence.

CB continued to press for the final 15 minutes up to half-time, but a well organised rearguard held them at bay with a degree of comfort. Dynamo would have been in dreamland, finding themselves 3 - 0 up at half-time against the joint league leaders.

But this was not to be a dream that was to come true as Cadoxton Barry started the second half in rampant mode, Constant on for Donnelly who had taken a knock in the lead up to half-time.

Just four minutes into the half Oaten trapped a goal clearance before setting off at pace to skirt around the back of the hosts' defence before crossing from the right for Dawson to fire home from an acute angle just beyond the far post. CB then had a string of corners which were well dealt with by Aber.

But when Aber went forward a pin point Constant return ball aimed for Morgan saw it taking an eternity to come down, and this allowed the 'keeper time to get behind the ball as Morgan fired. Then a throw in found Dawson whose cross found Harris Jnr, whose shot was only a whisker wide of the left post.

But it wasn't long before the deficit was down to one. Thompson cleverly volleyed a forward ball on to Oaten, after which he ran into space. Oaten's cross set up a goalmouth melee before the ball came out for Thompson to fire home from inside the box.

CB continued to hold a high line allowing goal prospects for the odd Aber breakaway, Constant sending a goal bound shot safely away for a corner. But it was almost one way traffic now as a good exchange of passes between Dawson and Adamson eventually saw it reach Morgan. His shot was blocked and fell to Sansome whose shot, in turn, came back to Morgan to drive home the equaliser.

From the restart Adamson tried to chip one over the 'keeper but it was parried. Dawson retrieved the ball to exchange passes before finishing from an angle beyond the far post at the second attempt.

Harris Snr came on for Sansome, but it was his son, Taylor, who had the final say as he intercepted a headed Aber clearance to embark on a diagonal right to left run, fending off a couple of tackles on route before chipping wide beyond the 'keeper's reach to round off an amazing second half CB goal spree.

This win gives Cadoxton Barry sole ownership of the top spot as Cardiff Draconians only managed an away draw with Cornelly United.
