CADOXTON Bowls Club could not find the answer to the difference between their heavy green and the good playing surface at Barry Athletic in their Munro Cup clash.

As a result only one rink managed to come to terms with the playing field. The successful rink was skipped by Derek Jeffries against David Snelling, who was assisted by two ex-Cadoxton players.

After eight ends the visitors held a 15 - 1 advantage, but only managed to score four more shots whilst 15 were scored by the home side.

Howard Craven was matched with opposing skip Geoff Whittaker, and dropped 11 shots without reply during the opening seven ends. The remaining ends did not get much better with just five singles scored.

Don Kuhnell did take an early lead on his rink against the experienced Richard Morgan, assisted by another ex-Cadoxton player, Paul Webley. They were successful with three singles with one against, in the opening stages. However, in a game with all ends closely contested only three further singles were possible, although the losing ends were mainly kept to singles.

John Jones skipped the other rink against Peter Rogers and stayed in contention until the 13th end when they held a 12 - 10 advantage. Unfortunately no further wins were added and the defeat was accentuated with a five and three to finish.

Cadoxton then visited Barry Central in a ML7 fixture and despite losing on three rinks, the fourth rink had a large enough winning advantage to take the aggregate score.

The successful rink was skipped by Derek Jeffries against opposing skip Ken Tanner. A five on the sixth end gave the visitors an 8 – 2 lead and with regular winning ends progressed to 16 – 6.

At this stage one of the central players left the match due to illness and they continued with three players still playing with eight bowls. This reduced their score by one shot (25 per cent of the score during the remaining ends.)

Howard Craven skipped against Tom Goddard and trailed 10 - 2 after six ends. However, an improvement during the rest of the game brought the score to 18 - 16 in favour of the home side.

Rob Byrne’s rink finished against Dave Goddard with the same two shot defeat, after leading 10 – 1 after seven ends. Roy Harding’s rink only managed to score on seven ends, to finish with a deficit of 12 shots.
