Perthcelyn 4 v Cadoxton Barry FC 4 - Thompson (2), Dawson, Weekley

EARLY in the game Cadoxton players got to work with Konten and Dawson combining well to see the cross skim to safety off the top of Oaten's head.

But it was the home side that was first on the score sheet when a long cross field ball from the left towards the right landed in space with 'keeper Harker caught in no man's land to allow the incoming winger to finish the job with a fine side kick.

Oaten charged off on a solo run down the right to see his final shot cleared as it was about to cross the line. Perthcelyn had a long throw specialist and one of his efforts was well trapped before being jinked forward to beat the offside trap, allowing the man on the end of it a simple finish.

Trailing by two goals after just 10 minutes, it was clear that CB were going to have to pull out all the stops if were they going to avoid a shock defeat. As it happened, it took only a further three minutes for CB to half the deficit.

Clever play from Harris in midfield culminated with a long pass to Thompson out on the right and only a couple of feet in from both the touch line and the bye line. The fact that the 'keeper moved forward may have helped the cause a little, but it should not diminish the fact that Thompson's goal from such a distance and such an acute angle was spot on.

CB were exchanging passes well without finding that extra little trick needed at the end of the sequences to turn them into goals, though one good combination involving Dawson and Weekley ended with the 'keeper doing well to tip an effort that came off Weekley's knee over the bar.

Only seconds later Konten hit the hosts post following a scramble inside the box. But with five minutes of the second third remaining CB did manage to level the scores when a chip on from Weekly allowed Dawson to pounce with a volley that gave the home 'keeper no chance. But parity existed for just a few seconds as a ball forward from the restart saw confusion between Harker and CB defenders, gifting Perthcelyn the lead.

Yet CB still found time 30 seconds before the third ended to level things up once more. Adamson, at right back, found Mitchell in the middle of the park. He was able to guide it through to the left where Konten was able to send over the short cross that allowed Weekley to finish from the middle of the box.

Further changes between the second and final third saw Perthcelyn applying a lot of pressure during its early stages, CB clearing off the goal line three times in the space of as many seconds. But at the other end Harris was brought down from behind in the box only to see a poor referee award a CB corner.

But it was back to Perthcelyn pressure as a ball over the top from deep beat the offside for the home forward to run onto and finish in style. But CB were not done yet as they returned the complement with an almost immediate equaliser which started with an Adamson pass out to Weekley on the left, his excellent cross allowing Thompson to chalk up his second of the match.

Another long ball out of defence saw Harker and a forward chasing a 50/50 ball, the former doing well to get down to smother the ball away from danger. A neat flick on from Eastman set up a half chance for a CB winner, but it was well cleared.

All the late pressure was now coming from CB, an Oaten free kick from just beyond the box going only a whisker over. CB did get the ball in the net for a fifth time though it was ruled out for offside.

Next Saturday sees Cadoxton Barry hosting Dinas Powys in the second match of a Jenner Park double header. It follows Barry Town United versus Gary Barnett's Moreton. The Cadoxton Barry fixture will kick-off at 7pm.
