ON SATURDAY, July 16, Barry Athletic Cricket Club 1st XI travelled to Ebbw Vale, with the start delayed until 2.45pm, they won the toss and asked Ebbw Vale to bat first on a misty afternoon.

Ebbw Vale clocked up 122 for eight in their 30 overs with C Wallace 19, D Blake 19 and N Pepper 18 not out, with Shea Ellis three for 12 and Steve Provis two for 25, being the main wicket takers for Barry.

In reply, Barry started like a train and had 58 on the board before they lost the wicket of David Goodway for a fine 38, this brought Nathan Baker to the wicket and Baker 35 not out and Gavin White 26 not out saw Barry Home to another win and 19 points.

Barry Athletic 2nd XI entertained Whitchurch Heath at the Athletic Ground Barry Island and notched up a fine score of 197 for five with M Anwar 68 and the ever reliable Lee Morgan 58 not out, with A White taking two for 31 and R Hopcroft two for 35.

In reply, Whitchurch Heath were 186 all out with G Lucey 67 not out, and M Anwar three for 21 and Paul Murphy two for 26 being the main wicket takers and a second win for returning second XI captain Ashley Baker.

This weekend Barry Athletic 1st XI entertain second place Brecon, with the 2nd XI travelling the short distance to Dinas Powys.
