ON SATURDAY, Barry Athletic 1st XI took on rivals Sully Centurions at The Athletic Ground, Barry Island.

Barry won the toss and batted first on a sunny afternoon, but they got off to a bad start when they lost White early on and were three wickets down in next to no time before Jones and Brock added 50 before Brock was out LBW.

Ellis soon went for zero and this brought Jake Griffett to the wicket to join Rhett Jones and they added a fine 105 with Griffett scoring 41 in 35 balls with five fours and one six. Jones went on to complete a fine 128 in 132 balls with 19 fours, one of the finest innings he has played for the club, with maturity and sense.

Barry were eventually bowled out for 253.

In reply Sully were bowled out for 107 with Kumar top scoring with 21 for the visitors and Nathan Baker taking four for 26 and Jake Griffett four for 30 and Barry strolled home to an emphatic win and a league double over their old rivals.

Barry Athletic 2nd XI travelled the short distance to Burnham Avenue, Sully and lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

They posted a total of 249 for seven with Paul Murphy making a fine 71 to go with his two previous 100s at Sully in the two years before. Nicky Jones had his first 50 for the club, Lee Morgan with 33 and Ashley Baker with 32, Gethin Hicks four for 52.
