BARRY Romilly Bowls Club first team continued their unbeaten start to the season with another success at home to Gilfach Bargoed in Division One of the CML.

Whilst the A team had a very good win away to Rumney (Cardiff) to keep up their promising start to the season. Romilly’s mid-week Munro Cup side remain unbeaten after a resounding win over Sully.

Barry Romilly Club side welcomed Gilfach Bargoed to Romilly Park on Saturday. Gilfach who have been one of the top teams for many years have had a poor start to the season

but they are not a side to take for granted as they have a number of top class players.

The game began with Romilly taking full advantage of home knowledge of the green and raced into a 17 shot lead by the fifth end leading 32 – 15. With the green playing heavy as normal the opponents were finding their weight difficult which allowed Romilly players to take full advantage going further ahead by the tenth end 59 – 28.

Two Romilly rinks in particular namely those skipped by Mike Doyle and Brian Foscolo were giving their opponents a torrid time leading by 13 and 18 respectively. As the game progressed Romilly remained in charge but Gilfach after being 31 shots down were clawing their way back reducing the deficit by the 15th end to 17 shots.

Over the last six ends the rinks of Doyle and Foscolo’s continued their dominance winning by 10 and 20 respectively whilst the rinks of Jeff Wright and Fred Phillips were having close games against strong opponents finally succumbing by four and three shots respectively.

The game ended in a 23 shot victory for Romilly gaining 10 points to Gilfach’s two.
