ON SATURDAY, June 25, Barry Athletic Cricket Club's 1st XI entertained Malpas in a top of the table class at the Athletic Ground.

Barry lost the toss and were asked to bat on an overcast afternoon with the game not stating until 1.40pm and reduced to 40 overs per side.

Barry posted 118 in their innings with Nathan Baker 41, Jake Griffett 16, Gavin White 12 and Rhett Jones 10, being the only ones to reach double figures, with Lewis Morgan taking five for 19 for Malpas.

In reply Malpas got off to a flyer and had 35 on the board in no time, before Peter Hellyar took two wickets in three overs and the collapse was about to start. But it was the introduction of Jake Griffett in the 17th over that proved the turning point with his slow left arm spin as he posted figures of 7.4 overs, one maiden, 23 runs and five wickets as Barry ran out winners by 10 runs. Nathan Baker taking two for 21 and Peter Hellyar two for 32.

Barry Athletic 2nd XI travelled to Malpas on Saturday and were bowled out for 77 with Lee Morgan scoring 28 not out, Malpas scoring 81 for zero and running out winners by 10 wickets.

This weekend Barry Athletic 1st XI entertain Cardiff Gymkhana at the Athletic Ground, Barry Island, with the 2nd XI travelling to Cardiff to face the same opponents.
