ON A reasonably good evening as Gladstone Park Central hosted this Munro Cup game against Cadoxton Bowls Club on June 1.

They were playing their first game using the recently presented disability buggy for use on the green.

Unfortunately it did not assist them to much as the rink was outplayed by the visitors skipped by Don Kuhnell. The other three Cadoxton rinks were also well on top.

One of these was skipped by Kelvin Chedgzoy, who had newcomer Steve Conway playing his first game against Ken Tanner.

For the first 10 ends the game was closely contested, with the score at 10-8 after eight ends, but with no further score was added to the home side until a two on the final end. Howard Craven had Tom Goddard as his opposing skip and lead with the score of 10-1 after four ends with the game set for another comfortable win.

John Jones skipped the final rink against David Goddard with a similar outcome, although a 15-3 lead was reduced to 15–11, before the ascendancy was regained in the final ends.

Cadoxton opened their ML5 league fixtures with a trip to Llantrisant, league winners from last season.

A terrific game ensued, with both sides playing a superbly. However the home advantage came out on top although they had to fight all the way for the win.

Don Kuhnell’s rink started slowly and trailed by seven shots after three ends, but started to find the pace of the green and put the pressure on and slowly got back into the game, with David Evans and Kelvin Chedgzoy playing some good bowls into the head.

However the opposing skip was up for it and on three occasions facing six, five, and four shots against, he drew the shot with his final bowl. Cadoxton were not deterred and kept the pressure on until collecting a four on the 17th end to take the advantage for the first time. A further four was added to complete a very satisfactory win.

Howard Craven also fought their way into the lead with his rink, on the 13th end, a five followed which seemed to have given them the edge but a bad four ends conceded 18 shots. A four on the last was not enough to compensate.

Roy Harding skipped his rink into the lead and held it for most of the game and seemed a likely winner. They lost the ascendancy for the first time on the 17th end, but drew level during the next two ends. A devastating five against on the next lost them the game.

On the other rink the first score for the visitors came on the ninth end, when they were 15-0 down. Although eight of the remaining ends were successful, the deficit was too much to recover.
