ON FRIDAY, April 22, Barry Comprehensive School’s Year 11 and Year 12/13 basketball teams faced Mary Immaculate High School and Porthcawl High School at the House of Sport in the county finals.

The Year 11 squad had a tough match against Mary Immaculate with both teams working hard trading baskets. Team captain Harrison Riseborough led the team well despite suffering with an ankle injury for the whole game.

Going into the final quarter Jack Benlican and Bradley Sage scored key baskets in the last two minutes for Barry to claim the win 46-43.

The Year 12/13 team faced Porthcawl High School at under-18 level. Led by captain Joshua Whelan and Thomas Pitman the team played fantastic basketball with confidence.

The team were assisted well by Evan Parle and a special mention must go to Year 9 players James Corrigan and Jay Slack who played excellently. The Year 12/13 squad ran out deserved winners by 58-18 and claimed their fifth straight finals win.

Congratulations to both teams, and their coach Leighton Coles, on becoming county champions.
