BARRY Town United’s Welsh League Division One championship aspirations have come to an end, but the club will have much to reflect positively on at the close of an exceptional season.

With Gavin Chesterfield’s side having contested a goalless draw with Briton Ferry at Jenner Park in their final outing of 2015-16, a 3-0 victory for Cardiff Met at Taffs Well on Saturday was enough to lift the Cyncoed outfit above and beyond the Town with two games spare.

As a result, Christian Edwards’ squad will now play Welsh Premier League football next season.

With 16 wins, 10 draws and four defeats from their 30 fixtures, Barry’s return to the Division One stage has surpassed expectations and, with the chasing duo of Goytre and Goytre United each dropping points, the Town duly claimed the runners-up spot on the final day of April.

With a previous high of third in 2009, the placing marked another milestone under the stewardship of manager Chesterfield, who will undoubtedly aspire to go one better next year.

Spurred on by an encouraging home crowd, the draw with Briton Ferry was highlighted by another clean sheet for Town goalkeeper Dan Bradley, completing his tenth league campaign at Jenner Park.

The club will now look forward to a celebratory end of season awards evening at St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay on Friday, May 27, with supporters encouraged to book their place or table by calling secretary David Cole on 07557 665 847.
