THE Atomic Touch festival returned to Barry this year, as girls tried their hand at the sport.

On Wednesday, April 20 year five and six girls from seven local primary schools, gathered at Holm View Leisure Centre to try their hand at Atomic Touch.

Atomic Touch is fast paced game and has similarities to touch rugby, netball and ultimate frisbee. It was created as a way of encouraging more children to get involved with touch rugby.

In total, 80 girls attended the festival. Their day began with a number of skill sessions, before they took part in a series of games in the afternoon, putting their new skills to the test.

Sophie Wilkinson, Active Young People Officer, said: “The Atomic Touch festival has been a fantastic event held over the past two years. It provides local girls with the opportunity to try rugby in a fun environment without the pressure of tackling or passing backwards.

"The girls have had a fantastic day today and I hope many of them continue playing outside of school.”

Any girls interested in playing Touch Rugby can contact the Phoenix Touch Club, who train every Friday by emailing phoenixtouch@gmx.co.uk for more information.
