YMCA Barry were delighted with the recent results from the Male Artistic Gymnastics Welsh Championships where they competed against the best in Wales and didn’t fail to impress the judges.

In the youngest age group, the Under 10s, Harrison Dobbs showed his maturity and claimed fourth place overall, demonstrating he is one to watch for the future.

Sammi Morgan in the Under 12s category performed brilliantly up against some very stiff competition as he wasn’t just competing against the best in Wales, but some of the best gymnasts of that age group in Great Britain.

YMCA Barry were all extremely proud of Sammi’s performance earning third overall and first place on the Pommel Horse. Further to this achievement, team mate Mason Gunter also impressed for the Under 12s team to receive the silver medal.

The under 16s category was a very close competition all the way to the end, with the boys having tremendous performances throughout. Josh Cooke claimed third overall and wowed the audience with his complex high bar routine and winning the Welsh High bar title.

Following from Josh, Harri Morgan was fourth overall, Liam Tanner fifth overall and Dex Trivett sixth overall. The four boys worked together throughout the competition and deservedly were the Welsh Under 16s Team Champions.

In the senior category Joe Rowlands demonstrated his experience and was second overall and the Welsh Senior Rings Champion.

With all of these achievements, the club received extremely exciting news that Sammi Morgan, Josh Cook, Harri Morgan, Dex Trivett and Liam Tanner qualified to represent Wales at the upcoming Celtic Cup Championships in the Isle of Man later this month.

YMCA Barry can boast at having the most successful male gymnastics club in Wales with 10 current squad members.

In the men’s elite squad Joe Rowlands, Iwan Mepham, Dex Trivett, Harri Morgan, Liam Tanner and Josh Cook all earned their places in the squad.

Some of our younger gymnasts Sammi Morgan, Harrison Dobbs, Taylor James and Toby Cole worked extremely hard to earn their place in the Welsh Development squad.

Further to the boy’s success, we were also extremely proud that three of our female artistic gymnasts, Bria Karim, Hana Davies and Millie - Rose Williams all gained places in the South Central Welsh Squad as well as four gymnasts selected in the Welsh Preparation Rhythmic squad, Kiara Llewellyn, Olivia Deans – Hunt, Seren Powell and Kenzie Schumak.
