THE Cadoxton Schools of Tae Kwon Do's first tournament of 2016 was held in Cheltenham where over 500 competitors from all over the UK converged to take part in the Global Tae Kwon Do International English Championships.

As usual this well run event started on time, and with six areas continually running throughout the day finished on time.

The championship started with the pattern categories with Keita Enfield who took first place in the ladies black belt, Charlie Rogers took a third in the junior green belt while Jessica Blackley and Lucia Cunningham having a run off for third place in the girls red belt category with Jessica taking the spot.

Competing in the junior girl's green belt lightweight category was Charlie Rogers. Charlie fought off all her competitors to take a well deserved first place.

Young Maddison Allen and Thea Cunningham were in the same junior girl's lightweight blue belt category. Maddison just loosing out with Thea progressing through to the final where she fought well to take the silver and second place.

In the girls junior red belt middleweight category was Jessica Blackley. Jessica fought her way into the final coming away with silver.

Not to be outdone by his little sister, Mason Blackley fought his way through the red belt heavyweight category eventually taking the bronze medal. Cameron Evans was competing in one of the largest categories on the day, boys red belt middleweight section. Cameron battled his way through each round to eventually come away with the bronze and third place.

In the junior boys middleweight black belts was Joel Wells, Cian Allen, Jake Quigley and fighting up a category Cody Jacobsen. Cody gave a good account of himself but was up against it in this larger category.

Jake and Cian went out in the earlier rounds while Joel fought his way through to the final, coming away with the silver and second place.

Competing in the girl's black belt middleweight was Lucy Newman; Lucy went through the rounds and came away with third place and the bronze. Competing up a weight, Keita Enfield fought in the women's middleweight black belt category. Keita had to fight hard to overcome some dubious judging to eventually get third place.

The day ended on a special note with Keita Enfield retaining her title for the third time and was again the winner of the GTI 2014/15 Ladies Black Belt Grand Prix, this prestigious award was presented to her by the undefeated world heavyweight champion Master Tony Sewell.
