BARRY Town United made it three wins from three in 2016 at the weekend, as the build-up to the JD Welsh Cup match against The New Saints begins to reach fever pitch.

On their first away day for a number of weeks, goals in either half secured a 2-0 win for third-placed Barry against Aberbargoed Buds in Welsh League Division One, despite former Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Wales international Darcy Blake turning out for the hosts.

Making his first start for the club, Callum Sainty opened the scoring, before substitute Michael Hartley struck after the interval to secure the points for Gavin Chesterfield's men.

With leaders Cardiff Met and second-placed Goytre each recording emphatic wins on Saturday afternoon, the top three remains as it was, though fourth-placed Penybont lost at Caerau Ely and sixth-placed Cambrian and Clydach Vale missed the chance to leapfrog fifth-placed Taffs Well as they were beaten by Risca United.

Cambrian and Clydach will provide the final hurdle for the Town this Saturday at Jenner Park, ahead of the TNS match in the Welsh Cup the following weekend. The Welsh League Division One match is a 2pm kick-off, with the Welsh Cup tie on Saturday, February 6, moved to 5.15pm for S4C coverage.

Admissions at £5 per match will be available at the turnstiles on both Saturdays, with concessions for senior citizens, students and children. Advance tickets are also available online at barry.ticketsource.co.uk
