Men's Division One

Tynewydd FC 3 - Cogan 2

TYNEWYDD FC went into this game against top of the table Cogan expecting a tough game. Cogan knocked them out of the Barry Cup a few weeks previously and the Tynny were looking for revenge in the league.

Yet after half hour the Tynny were in a hole after conceding two uncharacteristic goals and were in danger of losing just their second league game after their opening day loss.

The realisation of this seemed to spark the Tynny into life and they began to get a foothold in the game, even a missed penalty didn't stop the Tynny's relentless pressure.

That pressure told with virtually the last kick of the half when Ross Smith drilled in a low shot from a tight angle to make it 2-1 and the Tynny something to build on in the second half.

Tynny knowing they couldn't start the second half as they started the first were right on the front foot from the off and after numerous free kicks and corners whipped into the Cogan box, the Tynny managed to level the game up at 2-2. Mark McCarthy turning in from close range after a lovely cushioned header back across the box from Andrew Colburn.

Having drawn five games already this season the Tynny knew they were now on top and went after all three points knowing that Cogan were there for the taking.

In the 75th minute they got the winner. Their second half display deserved when Lewis Union cleverly connected with a low crossed corner and flicked the ball into the top corner to make it 3-2 and complete the comeback.

The Tynny saw the game out with some solid defensive play from the whole team.

Man of the Match went to Gareth "TinMan/Tindo/TinHead" Tinsley for an excellent all round game in the centre of the park proving a constant threat to Cogan all game.

It was also nice to see the return of Dale Miller from a knee operation who fitted in seamlessly as if he'd never been away but the boys would all like to wish the best to youngster Brandon Jarmain from his recent hamstring pull that should keep him out for at least six weeks.
