Barry Cup Round 1

BV 4 Barry Athletic 2

THE Athletic went into this tie as huge favourites against a team that has conceded 31 goals in its first five games and play in a lower division.

It didn't take long for them to realise that BV never turned up to make up the numbers. Although Athletic wasted numerous chances the clear cut man of the match was BV goalkeeper, Anthony Hopkins, whose display was outstanding.

Many Athletic senior players stated that it was the best goalkeeping display they had ever seen at this level.

Teejay Caton and Chris Leach managed to beat Hopkins but BV go through to the next round after scoring four against the run of play. The club wish BV the best of the luck in their second round game at Cowbridge.

Division 2

Cadoxton Barry 1 Barry Athletic 4

Athletic's youngsters got back to winning ways with a hard earned win against the experienced Cadoxton team.

Manager Jeff Howells shuffled his squad due to injuries, illness and work commitments and it didn't take long before Danny Morgan scored with a well taken header. Athletic went 2-0 up before half-time when Spencer Price drilled a shot past the 'keeper from the edge of the box.

Cadoxton made Athletic work hard for everything and it wasn't until the 75th minute that Danny Morgan grabbed his second of the game to put Athletic out of sight.

Cadoxton did score a penalty late on but the best was saved until last when ex-Cadoxton midfielder Kyle Ceesay scored a quickly taken 25 yard free kick past the stranded 'keeper.

Barry Athletic are seeking match day volunteers to assist with the running of the clubhouse and ground on Saturday afternoon's from October to March. Anyone interested in getting involved with a long standing family club in it's 40th anniversary season can contact Ady Gratton on 07722124759.
