A HAT-TRICK from Elvis Menayese led the way for Barry Town United, as the club ran out 6-0 winners at Tata Steel in the opening round of the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup.

Recent signing Joe Massaro started for the Town (in green) who rested goalkeeper Dan Bradley; but the former Cardiff City youngster was largely untroubled in a match where two current Bluebirds made the headlines.

In the penultimate game of his loan period, 17-year old prospect Menayese netted once before the interval and twice after it to give the Town a considerable three-goal cushion at the Tata Sports Ground.

It was then down to Cardiff City commercial executive and former Bluebirds defender Damon Searle to crash home the fourth from close range; his first of the season in a 25-year career that shows little sign of winding down.

With over a quarter of a century separating goalscorers Menayese and Searle, it is believed an all-time club record had been set; but Barry were far from finished for the day, and goals from Drew Fahiya and TJ Nagi took their tally to six, capping a fine run-out for the team, who also gave newcomers Kareem Leigh and Oli Dalton some much valuable match time.

Forward Menayese and talented midfielder Jamie Bird were set to return to the Cardiff City Stadium this week, though each will be remembered for the impact they made during their short stint in Barry Town colours.

Meanwhile, striker Jordan Cotterill, who was injured in pre-season, is thought to be less than a month from a welcome return to action. Cotterill was Barry's top goalscorer in the 2013-14 campaign and his comeback may prove timely for Gavin Chesterfield's side.
