IT'S been a busy summer season for the Rising Sun Kyokushin karate club after competing in a hat-trick of karate events.

The first event in the packed calendar was the Caerphilly invitational tournament, Caerphilly have always had strong links with the Barry area, which had been forgotten over the years.

This invitational tournamant was aimed to bring the two clubs back together and also help students gain vital experince for the future. The club took ten junior competitors to the event, each student showed great spirit and good etiquette.

Tournement results: White belt Category 1st Lloyd Thomas 2nd Wilson Wong; Red belt category 2nd place Oscar Bennett 3rd place Sam Williams; High grade catagory 1st place Max Ladner 2nd place Ben Antoney 3rd place Morgan Evans.

Mountain Ash Invitational Tournament: The Mountain Ash competition was set at a high level, mainly aimed for red belts and above, Sempai Ian Nicholas, who coached the high grade students to victory, commented: "To have the rostrum in the red belt group filled with all of the Rising Sun club members, taking first, second and third places was a fantastic result for us."

Results Red belt category: 1st place Evan Andrews, 2nd Place Oscar Bennett, 3rd Place Ruby Bennett; High grade category 1st place Kieron Kerr, 3rd place Morgan Evans.

The Final Cwmbran Championships: The final stop was the junior Cwmbran Open, the tournament involved a round robin system, each fighter entered had to fight more than six fights each to reach the finals. Some brilliant experience gained by all, both students Max Ladner and Sam Williams took respectable third places.

The next stop with the junior section of the club is the Welsh championships on September 21 and the Junior British Championships on November 21. The club will begin preparation for these next big events.

The senior section of the club, both club instructors Lee and Spencer are looking to finish 2015 off with success, October brings the 39th British Open full contact championships, both will be gunning for the British Lightweight title, taking on the best Europe has to offer.
