ON SATURDAY Barry Athletic Cricket Club 1st XI travelled to Rogerstone, lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a damp green wicket.

They got off to the worst possible start as they lost the wickets of Murphy four, Goodway six, Buckland none, Brock 13, N Jones one and Griffett one as they were reduced to 42 for six in the 18th over.

But Rhett Jones batting with composure and maturity added 52 with Billy Usswald before Usswald was bowled for a fighting 12. Jones then went for a fine 51 off 72 balls and 11 fours, Barry were now 98 for eight.

Gee and Frost took the score to 129 before Frost was bowled for 11, Hellyar went one run later as Barry were bowled out for 130, John Gee ending 15 not out.

In reply Barry soon went about the Rogerstone batting and John Gee did not waste any time when on the stroke of tea he had A Harris caught by Murphy for 12 with the score on 30. He then in his first over after tea picked up the wicket of Tovey for five bowled, he then, two overs later had Halderhay caught and bowled for one.

Rogerstone were now 41 for three, Gee ending with three for 31 in his 10 overs, Jake Griffett got in on the act as he took the wickets of Webb Bowled for 17. Goddard caught Hellyar for four and L Harris caught and bowled none.

Billy Usswald not to be out done picked up the wickets of Tutton Caught Buckland for 51 and J Harris LBW for two, but Rogerstone ran out winners by two wickets.

On Saturday Barry Athletic 2nd XI entertained Rogerstone at The Island and bowled the visitors out for 97 with L Doel three for 21, A Baker two for 14, A Sylvester two for 13 his first two wickets for the club and R Hatton two for 12 being the best bowlers.

In reply Barry romped home by 10 wickets when they reached their target in no time with D Leake finishing 64 not out and young A Sylvester 30 not out being the ones to see Barry home.

On Sunday Junior co-ordinator Mark Ellis and club secretary/1st XI scorer Mark Rees did a sponsored walk for the Island to The SSE SWALEC STADIUM with the help of the rest of the junior section doing relays to deliver a signed bat and a commemorative 125th Anniversary Cap to the cricket museum. Juniors training is every Tuesday 6pm till 7.15pm.
