ON SATURDAY Barry Athletic 1st XI travelled the short distance for the local derby against Sully and for the second year in a row they never showed up.

Sully won the toss and batted first, the first wicket fell on 35 when C Thomas was caught by Jones off Frost for 22.

On 45 the same bowler got rid of Allsop caught by Gee at third man for 16, the third wicket fell on 81 when Taylor-Moore had Singh caught by Murphy for six.

At 100 it was four down as Ellis had Shokeen bowled for 34, a partnership of 67 ensued between G Thomas and Bruce before Bruce was bowled by Usswald for 37.

Sixth wicket to go was G Thomas for 42 also bowled Usswald with the score on 177, on 185 Chandrey was caught Smith bowled Usswald for seven.

Davies then fell with the score on 190 caught by Goodway also off the bowling of Usswald for four, the ninth wicket fell with the score 238 when Balack was caught Taylor-Moore, a fifth wicket for the ever reliable Billy Usswald.

The final wicket fell with the score on 257 when Buckland stumped Mcinnon off the bowling of Goodway for five. Usswald ending with five for 52.

In reply Barry got off to the worst possible start when they lost both Smith and Jones on 13 for one and five respectively. There was then a partnership of 68 between Buckland and Goodway who were well up with the run rate before Buckland was caught behind with the score on 81 and this just opened the flood gates as seven wickets fell for 60 runs as one batsman after another came and went.

The first of these was Murphy bowled for 11, then Ellis run out for zero, Griffett bowled for zero, Goodway for a fine 45 the highest score of the match, Taylor-Moore for two, Usswald for zero and last man out was captain Gee for nine, who went down fighting and playing his shots.

Dafydd Frost was left with a fine mature knock of 23 not out off 23 balls and Sully had won by 116 runs. Barry are now deep in a relegation dog fight, with just five games left to rescue their season in what is their 125th anniversary year.

At The Island, Barry's 2nd XI eased to an easy win when the entertained Sully Centurions 2nd XI who won the toss and batted first and were bowled out for 86 with only A Emyr with 41 really showing any resistance, as Young Kieran Ferriday three for 18, Chandran three for 29 and Ashley Baker three for 22 being the best bowlers, with young Adam Sylvester had impressive bowling figures of six overs, four maiden six runs for no wickets.

In reply Barry reached their target with the loss of only three wickets with Chandran 21, Steve Oram 20 and Craig Brock 18 not out getting the main runs as Barry's 2nd XI keep up their title charge.

This week Barry Athletic 1st XI entertain Ponthir at the Island with a 12.30pm start and the 2nd XI travel to the same opponents also a 12.30pm start.

On Tuesday's Barry Athletic will be running junior training at The Athletic Ground, Barry Island, 6pm to 7.30pm.
