THE weekend of July 24-26, the Cadoxton Schools of Tae Kwon Do combined forces with several other Martial Art Styles to form a combined Welsh Squad to compete in the World Organisation of Martial Arts Athletes (WOMAA) World XV Games held at the Wales National Indoor Athletic Centre Cardiff.

The Welsh Squad included 18 members from the Cadoxton School of Taekwondo headed by Master Ron Thomas.

Countries that attended were America, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Ireland, England, Scotland, Jersey, Isle of Man, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, and Bangladesh and of course Wales, all represented their countries with pride and good sportsmanship.

All games ran smoothly over the three days and brought forth many new WOMAA World Champions. The night time finals on Sunday were something to see; everyone who attended the finals had a great time and witnessed some great competition from some of the world's class competitors.

The Cadoxton School of Taekwondo came away successfully with a total 54 medals and an amazing 21 world titles in the following: Traditional patterns: one Gold, six Silver and five Bronze. Weapon Forms: four Gold, three Silver and four Bronze.

Point Sparring: seven Gold, two Silver and five Bronze. Continuous Sparring: five Gold, four Silver and three Bronze.

Boys and Girls Team events: four Gold, one Silver and the Women's open weight Point Sparring Grand Champion.

After the opening ceremony on day one, Friday, the Weapon, traditional and Synchronised Pattern categories began with the Cadoxton School being represented in all sections.

Results were: Traditional patterns, Gold - Peter O'Callaghan; Silver - Cody Jacobsen, Maddison Allen, Lucia Cunningham, Matthew Bennett, Keita Enfield and Martin James;

Bronze - Joel Wells, Anita Sheppard, Jessica Blackley, Thea Cunningham and Leland Butler.

Weapons Sections, Gold - Matthew Bennett in both the traditional and bladed, Anita Sheppard and Lucia Cunningham; Silver - Cody Jacobsen, Cian Allen and Ethan Andrus; Bronze - Charlie Rogers, Thea Cunningham, Joel Wells and Jessica Blackley.

Saturday saw the start of the Point sparring categories. Gold - Cody Jacobsen, Charlie Rogers, Lucia Cunningham, Thea Cunningham, Anita Sheppard, Cameron Evans and Keita Enfield; Silver - Maddison Allen and Joel Wells; Bronze - Jake Quigley, Matthew Bennett, Jessica Blackley, Mason Blackley and Leland Butler.

Sunday was the longest day with all the Continuous Sparring, and team events along with the grand champion events taking place

Results were: Continuous Sparring - Lucia Cunningham gold in her own category, Lucia also fought up a category and took the Gold. Also Joel Wells, Cameron Evans and Jessica Blackley took Gold.

Silver - Cian Allen, Charlie Rogers, Thea Cunningham and Jake Quigley; Bronze - Cody Jacobsen, Mason Blackley and Leland Butler. Jessica Blackley and Lucia Cunningham Gold in the girl's team point sparring, Joel Wells gold in both the boys team point and continuous sparring. Cameron Evans, Silver in the boy's team point sparring.

The event and day ended with the Ladies open weight point sparring grand championship where they had Keita Enfield competing. Throughout the day Keita had competed to reach the grand champion final, where she dominated the two, two minute rounds to be crowned and awarded the WOMAA World Grand Champion belt. Club instructor and coach Master Ron Thomas was inducted into the Hall of Fame as the International Instructor of the Year.

The clubs overwhelming and continuing success is due to the dedication and hard work of its members, supporters, coaches and instructors' whose hard work throughout the year paid off.
