CADOXTON Bowling Club's A side made a valiant effort on Saturday to hold back a resurgent Barry Central side determined to win.

Unable to field a full team, Cadoxton was faced by a revitalised Barry Central team and came off worse. Two of Cadoxton's rinks went down to hefty defeats, one started its comeback too late, and one managed to claw its way back into close consideration.

Graham Garland's rink couldn't recover from an opening end loss of five shots, followed up by a four shot loss and then a six shot body blow.

Dennis Hammond's rink managed to score consistently, including a four-shot win and a two shot win on the final end, but couldn't recover from a six shot loss followed by a five shot deficit and a couple of three shot losses.

Alan Carpenter's rink started off well, picking up four shots in the opening three ends, but then failed to score more than a small handful of single winning shots, while their opponents picked up several two and three shot winning ends.

Slightly against the general run of events, David Fanning's rink prevented the visitors from scoring too heavily, winning occasional ends steadily by one shot until gathering a four shot win in the penultimate end, but the visitors took the final end with two shots, having earlier picked up a three shot and a four shot winning end.
