WELSH League Division Two champions Barry Town United will tackle Division Three winners Llanelli Town in the third annual Gary Lloyd Cup match on Tuesday, July 28.

The fixture, in honour of the former Town and Reds full-back, will be played at neutral Bryntirion Park in Bridgend, with holders Llanelli aiming to cling on to a trophy captured in each of the previous two seasons.

In 2013s contest, a second half strike from Liam Samuel secured the trophy for the West Walians, in front of a crowd of over 300 spectators.

The return meeting in 2014 then saw the Reds retain the silverware; this time, by three goals to two.

However, Barry will be hoping the third time proves the charm, in this year's celebration of one of the most decorated players to ever wear the club's number three shirt.

In an eventful nine-year stay at Jenner Park that took in almost 300 first team appearances, Lloyd took on the might of both Dynamo Kiev and FC Porto and earned a call-up into the full Wales squad for his efforts; the first League of Wales player to do so.

In recognition of his achievements, full-back Lloyd (now a long-serving coach at Stebonheath Park) was inducted into S4C's Welsh Premier League Hall of Fame in 2012.

Before the Llanelli clash, Gavin Chesterfield's side travel to Pen-y-Pound Stadium for a pre-season meeting with Welsh League newcomers Abergavenny Town on Saturday, July 25.

The Monmouthshire club secured promotion with an unbeaten record and will provide another good test for Barry, who were 2-1 winners against Caernarfon Town this past weekend at the University of Wales Sport Park, Treforest.

Goals from James Dixon and Drew Fahiya secured the victory for the Welsh League outfit against their counterparts from the Cymru Alliance.

The Town were also in action at Bedwas RFC against Trethomas on Tuesday evening, with visits to Haverfordwest County and Llanwern on the horizon before the league campaign kicks off on Saturday, August 15.
