ON Saturday (July 11) Barry Athletic Cricket Club 1st XI entertained Brecon at the Athletic Ground Barry Island.

They lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a beautiful sunny afternoon and got off to a solid start as David Goodway and Paul Murphy scored 82 off 15 overs before they lost the wicket of Murphy when he was caught for 40 off 44 balls with six fours, Goodway and Rhett Jones then added a further 53 for the third wicket before Goodway was bowled for 41, nine runs later Jones was out for a solid 30, it was 144 for three, Baker and Jones then added 52 for the fourth wicket before Baker was caught in the deep trying to up the run rate for 26, Jones then ran himself out for 34, and Reji went for 12 the score 226 for six, Griffett and debutant Sylvester then added 26 in the last four overs to take the score to 252 for six, Griffett ending with a fine 26 not out in 15 balls.

In reply Brecon got off to fast start with their 50 coming up in the sixth over as the two opening batters to a shine to Barry opening bowlers Gee and Frost, who were both taken out of the attack after bowling three overs each, this brought the ever reliable Peter Hellyar and Jake Griffett into the attack and it was not long before the change of bowling had done the trick when Hellyar had Webber caught by Rhett Jones for 16 with the score 57, 11 runs later the second wicket went again it was Hellyar who done the trick when he trapped Willams LBW for 38, at 94 the three wicket fell as Hellyar struck again when Williams was caught by Jones for 12, at 101 it was four wickets down as Hellyar struck yet again when he had Trumper LBW for four, Barry were in the game, but that would be the last wicket they would take for some time as Phillips and Mitchell added 150 for the fifth wicket before Phillips was caught by Hellyar for 98, four balls later Brecon had seen themselves to the Barry total and a five wicket win, with Hellyar finishing with four for 36.

Barry 2nd XI consolidate top two position with win at Bryn-a-don.

On Saturday Barry Athletic 2nd XI travelled to Bryn-a-don to face Dinas Powys 2nd XI and Dinas Powys Batted 1first and were bowled out for 121 with the best bowler being Ashley Baker three for 22, Nicky Jones three for 29 and Lewis Doel two for 28, with Barry wicket keeper Henry Dawson taking five catches behind the stumps.

In reply Barry did not waste any time chasing down the runs and reached there target in the 23rd over with Hugh Smith 60 not out, Henry Dawson 27 and yet again the ever reliable Lee Morgan 13 not out as Barry notched up another win on their quest to win the title.

This Friday (July 17) Barry Athletic Cricket Club will be holding a family fun night at the Athletic Ground with Cricket Wales kindly bringing two of their coaches down for the night, there will be tug of war, a bouncy castle and a BBQ, so come along and have an evening full of fun, games and plenty more 6pm to 9pm.

Junior Training is every Tuesday at The Athletic Ground from 6pm to 7.15pm, all welcome to come along and enjoy the game of cricket in an enjoyable family atmosphere.
