ANOTHER good result for Millwood in the Munro Cup, defeating Barry Plastics by a margin of 13 shots, keeping up the winning run which at the moment stands at played nine - won six, lost three.

After the first quarter had been played, Millwood were in the lead by a margin of 29 shots to three. Sure by sure Barry Plastics started to whittle away at the lead, and after nine ends the margin had been reduced to only 42 – 31 in Millwood’s favour.

On completion of the 14th end, the margin had increased to 17 shots at 64 – 47, with Plastics again trying to dent the Millwood lead, for at the final 18th end Millwood only had the 13 shot advantage.

Though each side won on two of the four rinks, Millwood’s better shot aggregate saw them take 10 points to Plastic’s four points. The damage was done on the rinks skipped by Brian Crockford and Peter Taylor.

There are still five Munro Cup games to be played yet, so keep going Millwood.

Millwood travelled up to play Gelligaled on the “carpet” on Saturday fearing the worst (two years ago they lost 14-0 by a massive 86 shots).

After getting the feel for the trial ends allowed, Millwood settled down for a tough game.

At the end of the fifth end, Millwood were trailing by only five shots at 15 – 20, but on completion of the tenth end, the lead had changed hands to Millwood by virtue of a 35 – 31 shot lead.

Then taking a break (as Gelligaled do for eats and tea/coffee), Millwood took a further leap ahead after the 15th end to take a 50 – 39 shot advantage.

Playing the last quarter of the game, the wheels came off Millwood’s wagon because everything went against the plan, for Gelligaled to really pile it on and take the game to win by the 41 shot advantage.

As much as Millwood tried, there was nothing going their way in the last session. At least Millwood came away with one point, (thanks to rink 2 for the draw, but they should have won), which means now that Gelligaled have taken over top spot in the Division.

Quite a disappointment after holding on for so long in the game.

Millwood’s next game is home to Ynysygharad this Saturday.

Millwood ‘A’ entertained Rumney ‘A’ on Saturday, but unfortunately the visitors couldn't put out four full rinks, but still gamely played on, though taking a rather heavy defeat back home with them.

At five ends, Millwood had taken 33 –11 shot lead which, by the tenth end had increased to a 57 – 27 lead for Millwood. Still piling on the agony, after 15 ends had been played the Millwood lead was a 36 shot difference at 74 – 38.

Even then Millwood still gained more shots to finish after the 21st end to lead by a 110 – 59 difference.

Although Rumney ‘A’ lost heavily, they did manage to win on one rink out of the four. All credit to them for a spirited way in which they played the game.

Well done to Millwood ‘A’ for gaining the valuable 12 –2 points victory. They all count at the end of the season.

The next ‘A’ team game is away to Splott Phoenix, (Division 7 leaders) with Millwood ‘A’ lying second. Good Luck ‘A’ side.
