VALE Reds celebrated their last presentation under the name on Sunday, June 26, as from next season they will be know as Barry Town United Pan Disability football team and come under the Barry Town United umbrella.

So it was a double celebration for the club, one to mark an end of an era and two the start of a new beginning. The club will also be 10 years old in December this year so it has come at the right time.

This year the presentation was held at Barry Rugby Club where they always have a warm welcome.

The chairman Neil Latham welcomed everyone to the club and also explained the changes that will be happening in the future. Barry Town manager Gavin Chesterfield presented the trophies on the day.

The club is growing and the players are developing so it was very hard for the coaches to pick the winners and it went down to the wire but the under-16 trophies were awarded to Mathew Oldham for most improved player and Josh Hill for player of the season.

The over-16 trophies were awarded to Lewis Overton for player of the season and James Clark for most improved. There were also awards for best goals at a tournament and these went to Shaun Horley for the under-16s and Ibby Hassan for the over-16s.

This year the club has been lucky enough to have four regular goalkeepers so it was fitting to have an award for the the most improved goalkeeper and that award went to Kieron Anderson.

One last award to Nick Latham for all his help with the club, Nic looks after the training equipment and carries out all the washing of the training tops, so he was presented this award for all his hard work.

The club was sad to hear that a very big supporter of the club passed away earlier in the season and the committee wanted to mark this with a memorial trophy, so the Myra Phillips award was created with the intention to be given to somebody like Myra that gave more than just support to the club and went the extra mile.

The committee all had a chance to vote on this at a meeting last month. The welfare officer arranged the votes and the result was that the Myra Phillips award went to the chairman and lead coach for the club Neil Latham.

The young coaches said that Neil made them feel welcome straight away and did not restrict them in the way they coached but just advised them on how to go about it. Neil is so passionate about the club and it shows in how he has taken it forward over the years.

On accepting his award Neil thanked all the coaches and committee for their hard work in the last five years and taking the club forward, this had also been recognised by the Disability Sport Wales by awarding club of the month for June 2015 to them.

All the players were then presented medals by Gavin Chesterfield, Neil then thanked Gavin for his support and Gavin said he was looking forward to see the team play very soon.

The club are now looking for new players to join especially if you are between 12 and 15 and have arranged taster sessions at Colcot Sports Centre on the July 22 and 29 at 6.30pm.

This is free of charge to new players and if you would like to find out more contact Neil on 07827 334818 or visit the club website at valeredsdisabilityfc.btck.co.uk. The club is also looking for sponsorship for transport for the team to and from festivals for next season, if you are able to help again contact Neil.
