THE weather was fine and so was the result when Cadoxton hosted the match against Abercynon, the undefeated leaders of the CML6.

The result was a 12 points to two success for the hosts.

The only failure was a defeat for the John Jones rink. They were 5-0 down after three ends, but fought all the way to keep in the game, and a narrow four shots, did not affect the aggregate unduly.

Howard Hellyar had the better of the opposing lead for most of the game, which left them chasing the game end after end. Ivor Robertson was producing shots regularly when needed, which once again left the skip Don Kuhnell the task of safeguarding the shots held, to win comfortably.

Gordon Davies played his part, on this rink for his first success of the league season.

Roy Harding’s rink started well with scores of 7-1 after five ends, and then 10-2 after nine ends.

However during the next seven ends the advantage was decreased with just two singles and seven against. Playing with great composure the home side re-opened the gap, and was not perturbed by a three against on the last end.

The rink skipped by Howard Craven had an opening end when the shot could not be decided, so no score was the result.

Nevertheless by the 13th end the advantage was in the home sides favour with a score of 17-5. The game continued with both sides striving for supremacy with the visitors reducing the difference by three, at the end.

Another struggle for Cadoxton ‘A’ with the long trip to Ynysybwl in the CML7, with their continual shortage. They should be congratulated for their perseverance. There are signs that some of the sick ‘parade’ may return in the near future to bolster their determination.

Howard Craven’s rink built an early 11-3 lead after eight ends against Bob Penn, from Cowbridge, when they met at Cadoxton, in the Munro Cup.

However after a single each, the visitors boosted their game with nine shots in the following four ends, to take the lead. This was recovered with two singles, only to lose it again with a two on the penultimate end. The points were shared with a single for the home side on the last.

Gordon Davies and Alan Wallace were the skips on the next rink, and the scores were tied on 4-4 and 8-8 before 10 shots scored on the next four ends opened a favourable gap for the home side. A two stopped the run but four more were added in the final two ends.

Kelvin Chedgzoy skipped a strong rink from Cowbridge, which was skipped by the County Singles Finalist and struggled to get into the game.

The score was 9-1 after six ends. Six shots during the following three ends reduced the advantage, but this was short lived with seven against on the next four. The game finished with three shots each during the last five ends.

John Jones had Clive Pritchard as his opposing skip and conceded a five on the first end. This was counteracted with a five on the fifth end to tie at 7-7.

However John who is suffering with his eyes at the moment lost six continuous ends, to open a 12 shot gap. Five shots each were scored over the final six ends.
