SULLY Centurions’ 1st XI took the long trip to Brecon and were unlucky to lose out to the hosts after a frustrating day of rain delays.

Batting first, Centurions made a decent start but after reaching 100 there was a big collapse, going from 102 for three to 134 all out.

Shae Ellis continued his good run of form with the bat to register 50, but only three others made it into double figures. The rain was to prove a constant factor in both innings and eventually the umpires had to revert to the use of the Duckworth Lewis rules to get a result.

The home side made a poor start, with Lloyd Bruce (two for 37) and Santosh (one for six) reducing Brecon to 31 for three after nine overs. But Phillips (29 not out) and Williams (22 not out) steadied the ship and eventually reached the revised target of 101 in the 22nd over.

The seconds lost two players due to last minute unavailability so took to the field against Dinas Powys with just nine men.

The visitors batted first and made 58 for the first wicket, when Luke Burnett bowled Colley for 19. Then Preston (56) was joined by Wingren and the pair put on another 34 before Burnett struck again in the14th over, having Wingren caught for 11.

Josh Bryan removed Preston with the score on 104 to give Centurions some hope, but another half century stand gave Dinas the advantage. Wickets began to fall but the runs kept on coming.

Heatherton became the second Dinas Powys player to hit a 50 and the visitors racked up an impressive 314 all out. For Sully, Ricky Griffett (three for 65) was the main wicket taker, with support from Iwan Thomas (two for 31) and Luke Burnett (two for 54).

After tea Centurions set about their reply with makeshift opening pair Ricky Griffett (10) and Steve Morse (28) putting on 19 – followed by a stand of 33 between Morse and Bryan.

But 52 for two became 105 all out, as the wickets began to tumble. A bit of resistance from Jason Hicks (19) at the end helped the score along, but the game was all over in the 33rd over when Dave Sylvester was out LBW to Marlow for three.

The wickets were shared out between the Dinas Powys bowlers, with Marlow (two for seven) and Hiscocks (two for 10) posting the best figures.
