ONCE again the Cadoxton Schools of Tae Kwon Do represented Barry as they travelled to Cheltenham where over 300 competitors from all over the UK converged to take part in the Global Tae Kwon Do International, National open Championships.

Five Gold, three Silver and five Bronze were the rewards for a successful day competing for the Cadoxton Tae Kwon Do school students.

The championship started with the pattern categories, Thea Cunningham took third in the pee wee class, Cody Jacobsen third junior boys, Jessie Blackley second in the girls red belt and Keita Enfield third in the ladies black belt category.

Competing for the first time in the boy's patterns was Daniel Quigley, although missing out on a medal this time Daniel acquitted himself well. Having a tie for third place Lucia Cunningham just missed out by one point.

In the girls Pee Wee point sparring category they had Maddison Allen and Charlie Rogers, both girls fought their way into the final with the more experienced Maddison taking first place and Charlie second place. Competing in the boys Pee Wee section was young Leland Butler, Leland did well to take second place in only his third competition and first GTI tournament.

Cameron Evans and Ethan Andrus were competing in a very large boys blue belt light weight continuous sparring category, Ethan was unlucky to lose out in the first rounds while ever improving Cameron went on to take first place.

Jake Quigley and Cody Jacobsen were in the boys light weight continuous sparring category, unlucky Cody came up against the eventual winner in the first rounds while Jake went on to take third place.

Competing in the boys middle weight continuous sparring was Cian Allen, Cian just missing out on a podium place this time around. In the girls red belt lightweight continuous sparring they had Jessie Blackley, Jessie dominated her category with her kicking ability, Jessie went on to take a well deserved first place. Not to be out done and competing in the boys blue belt light-heavyweight category was big brother Mason Blackley, Mason did extremely well to take third place.

Now competing in the men's categories Matthew Bennett had some tough rounds to eventually get to the final of the men's black belt light-weight continuous sparring category, the final went into extra time with Mathew eventually taking first place.

Competing up into the women's black belt middle-weight continuous sparring category they had Keita Enfield, due to some home town judging Keita had to go into extra time on three occasions, and twice in the final, with the referee making the final decision awarding first place to Keita.

The club is now training hard for the July 2015 world martial arts games this time being held in the Welsh National Indoor Athletics Centre Cardiff.
