ON Saturday Barry Athletic 1st XI entertained Rogerstone at The Athletic Ground and captain John Gee won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first on a green seamer.

Rogerstone were soon in trouble as Gee had Harris caught by Frost for 12 with the score on 22, it soon became 24 for two when Frost had Holdahay LBW for nine. Paul Murphy took the third wicket when he had Webb caught by Usswald for 26 now 60 for three, at 93 the fourth wicket went when Tutton was caught again by Usswald this time off Doel for 10.

At 115 the wicket of L Harris fell for eight run out by Usswald, there was then a partnership of 48 before the wicket of Young fell for 21 caught Goodway off the bowling of Usswald, 163 for six. At 199, the eighth wicket fell when J Tutton was stumped by Baker of Griffett for nine and also on 199 the eighth wicket fell when J Berry was caught by Baker also off the bowling of Griffett for zero at 203.

The ninth wicket fell when L Tovey was bowled by Gee for a fine 101 and the very next ball Greening was stumped Baker for zero and Rogerstone finishing 203 all out with Gee finishing with three for 31 and Griffett two for seven.

In reply, Barry got off to a bad start when they lost the wicket of Baker for four with the score on 20, this brought Rhett Jones to the wicket to join Steve Provis and they proceeded to add 91 for the second wicket, before Jones was out for a fine 48 in 33 balls with 10 fours and showing some real maturity and responsibility.

A partnership of 64 proceeded before Steve Provis was bowled for 95 in 94 balls with 13 fours and one six and his 50 coming from 51 balls, he yet again showed his class. The fourth wicket fell when Buckland was bowled for seven and the score 191 for four. It was left to Paul Murphy and David Goodway to see Barry home with Goodway finishing 37 not out and Murphy eight not out as Barry ran out winners by six wickets and a 20 point win.

On Saturday Barry Athletic 2nd XI travelled to Rogerstone and yet again they came away with a win, their fourth out of four so far in the league this season.

Rogerstone won the toss and asked Barry to bat first and Hugh Smith and Craig Brock got Barry off to a brilliant start as they put on 159 for the first wicket before Brock was caught for 50. Smith went soon after for 90 and Barry were 164 for two.

Ashley Baker and Lee Morgan taking the score through to 228 before Baker was out for 46 and Dawson went off the final ball of the innings for nine as Barry ended up with 247 for four in their 45 overs.

In reply Rogerstone reached 185 for six with Ashley Baker taking three for 29 in his nine overs and Peter Hellyar taking one for 11 in his nine overs as Barry ran out winners by 62 runs.

On Sunday Barry Athletic travelled to Aberdare for a 1st round Welsh Cup game and lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a pudding of a wicket. It really proved to be a slog for the Athletic as they struggled through their 40 overs for 179 for eight with David Goodway being the mainstay of the innings getting 83 not out and was ably supported by Dafydd Frost 24, Nathan Baker 23 and Ashley Baker 17, the best of the Aberdare bowling was G Derrick two for 27.

In reply Aberdare were never up with the run rate as Barry bowled 20 overs in 48 minutes at just the cost of 55 runs with Griffett bowling Weatherby for 21 in this spell, Gee ending up with figures of eight overs three maidens, no wicket for 11 runs a very economical spell by the skipper. The best bowling on the day came from Billy Usswald who's eight overs gave him figures of four for 23 and David Goodway ended a very good day for him with three for 14 as Barry ran out winners by 30 runs and another away tie in round 2.

This Saturday Barry 1st XI entertain Newport Fugitives at Home with a 12.30pm start and the 2nd XI away to the same opponents, Barry Athletic would also like to thank Taylor/Wimpey part of the Quays Consortium for their sponsorship of Saturday's game.

Junior training is on Tuesday evenings between 6pm and 7.15pm.
