Cadoxton v Ely
The Cardiff & District League opening game for Cadoxton was played at home against Ely, on a pleasant, sunny, day. The result brought 12 points for Cadoxton with two against.
Howard Craven’s rink started off with three winning ends to lead 6-0.
This advantage was reduced to just one shot by the 11th end, and with two ends left the lead was the same. However they finished strongly with a two and a four for welcome success.
The rink skipped by Roy Harding trailed 4-1 after four ends, but by the tenth end the scores were level. A strong finish, with just one further losing end saw them safely home.
On the rink skipped by Don Kuhnell the advantage swung two and fro, with the scores level on four occasions. However two threes opened a gap and with two ends left with a nine shot lead, another home win looked on the cards.
A five against on the penultimate end, gave the opposition hope but a single on the last was not enough to stop the third rink win.
Gordon Davies skipped the other rink and they looked well in with another success when leading, after a five gave them a 10-3 advantage. The opposition came back to draw level 10 each. Still level on 12 and 14, before three singles against prevented a ‘full house’.

Cadoxton ‘A’ v Barry Central
A depleted Cadoxton ‘A’ side visited Barry Central for their opening league game and found the mission too great for them. A triple skipped by David Evans was the only rink to have any success, with a one shot win.
Dai tuck skipped the only full rink and although taking an early 7-3 lead, this dwindled down to 8-8. On the next end a five against was cancelled out on the next four ends. Eventually the home side inched ahead to get the result.
The other two rinks found the opposition and the lack of a player too much and were comprehensively defeated.
