AFTER five years of training and dedication 1st Degree black belts is the reward for five local students of the Cadoxton School of Taekwon-Do.

The grading exam started at 10am Saturday morning, testing both the candidates and examiners to the full.

The students were put through their paces by Master Ron Thomas 8th degree, Dutch Master Jaap Teeuwissen 7th degree, assisted by 2nd degrees Mr Matthew Bennett and Mrs Anita Sheppard.

The examination consisted of all the traditional aspects of Tae Kwon-Do, Patterns, Set Sparring, Free Sparring, Self-defence, Weapons, and Theory tests and to complete the exam a power test consisting of breaking wood with the hands and feet.

After the exam Master Thomas and Master Teeuwissen complemented the group and their instructors on their high and ever improving standard of Tae Kwon-Do.

A celebration buffet and disco was held at the West End Labour club where certificates and new black belts were presented to all the successful candidates.

The following day, Sunday there was a full days training with Master Thomas and master Teeuwissen, with coloured belts in the morning, afternoon was for black belts and senior grades.
