ON Saturday Barry Athletic Cricket Club entertained The Welsh Asians at The Athletic Ground, Barry Island on what was to be a run feast for all, Barry captain John Gee won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first.

The Asians innings got off to the worst possible start as they lost the wicket of Idrees in the third over with the score on nine caught by Griffett off the bowling of Frost for four, the second wicket fell with the score on 27 in the ninth over when Frost had Aslam caught by Goodway for 13.

This brought K Ilyas to join A Ilyas and they proceeded to add 186 for the third wicket before the former was run out for 105, soon followed by K Ilyas for 81 caught Murphy and bowled Frost, the score now 224 for four.

It soon became 225 for five when Gillani was leg before wicket (lbw) to Frost for 0, at 252 the wicket of Khan fell for 14 caught by Brock off Steve Jones for 14 including one six and one four. At 269 Bilal went for nine stumped by Baker off the bowling of Gee, at 278 the eighth wicket fell of M Ilyas for four.

The Asians innings finished at 285 for eight off their 50 overs with Ali not out 38 with one four and four sixes. Frost finishing with four for 49 in his 10 overs.

Barry's innings didn’t start any better when they lost the wicket of Goodway for two in the third over with the score on six. This brought Rhett Jones to the wicket to join Nathan Baker and they proceeded to stroke their way along to drinks, then the score rate was picked as both Baker and Jones decided they were going to open up and play some shots with Jones hitting one of the biggest sixes seen for many a year at The Athletic Ground.

He along with Baker pushed the score past the 200 mark with Baker taking himself to a well deserved 100 that came from 99 balls and included 12 fours and four sixes he was eventually out caught in the deep for a brilliant and entertaining 120 with 14 fours and five sixes from 109 balls and a mirror of the Asians innings, he and Jones also added 186 but this time for the second wicket.

The runs then dried up, Jones eventually out for a fine and mature 84 with six fours and three sixes and at time showed a solid defence and an old head on young shoulders. Barry's inning finally closed on 251 for five from their 50 overs and a total of 536 runs for the loss of 13 wickets in what was a batters game.
