PENARTH and Dinas Runners were boosted by the weather as they hosted their annual Porthkerry 5 race over the weekend.

The five mile race around Porthkerry Park had been months in preparation and organisation, making sure everyone knew where they needed to be to ensure the day went seamlessly.

This year was also the first time the club had used chip timing technology, ensuring every runner had an accurate time to the millisecond.

With the timing mats laid down, the computer set up, and the microchips stuck on to every runners bib number, the club were ready to go.

Marshals were dotted around the length of the multi-terrain route, not only ensuring runners were directed the right way but also cheering and offering words of encouragement.

After the race runners enjoyed a technical t-shirt, bottles of water donated by the Co-Operative shop, an apple and goody bag courtesy of the race sponsor Legacy Leisure.

In a presentation ceremony the winners were presented with medals and trophies by club chairman Clem Clement.

The race also formed part of the Welsh Short Trail Championships, with Welsh Athletics organisers handing out medals to those eligible after the race.
