ON Saturday afternoon, members of Millwood Bowling Club, (ladies and gents), gathered for the opening of the Green for the coming season.

Members drew their lots for the game of “spoons” as there was no official game scheduled. Each person drew to see where and who they played with and against. The format of play worked out to five rinks playing, and one triple rink playing.

Each rink was to play a total of 15 ends for this friendly workout. The first few ends played found the green very heavy but thankfully not too damp although the green had been watered.

As the afternoon progressed, so the green began to dry and run and began to take turning bowls. All too soon the 15 ends had been played, and so it was back to the clubhouse to enjoy the barbecue and refreshments.

An enjoyable afternoon’s bowling was had by all who attended, although there was no final result after the ends, just the enjoyment of the game.

A very big thank you to all who officiated, especially Alan Evans for the splendid job of doing the barbecue, all the hungry bowlers enjoyed it.

Next Saturday the club side are away to Dinas Powis for the usual friendly, while the ‘A’ side are home to Romilly in the SVL. Both of these games start at 2.30pm (Whites), so let’s see if they can get off to a winning start.
