BARRY YMCA gymnasts recently enjoyed success at the South Central Modified Grades event. Caitlin Meadows and Kelsey Cross both competed in Modified grade 3. Caitlin took the overall title and placed first on bars and beam, and second on vault and floor. Kelsey placed second overall, first on floor and vault and second on bars and floor.

Seven-year-old Hana Davis also competed on the same day in the South Central 7 Years Prep event. She claimed the overall title and also gained another two gold medals on beam and range and conditioning, silver on bars and floor and bronze on vault.

More Barry YMCA gymnasts were in action at the Welsh Grades events. Bria Karim, Erin Gamble and Evie Wong all successfully completed the required skills to pass their grade 3. All three scored high enough to be awarded a ‘highly commended’.

Celyn Powell, Laila-Jade Lang and Sophia Foscolo enjoyed similar success in Grade 4. Celyn and Sophia gained ‘highly commended’ whilst Laila-Jade secured a ‘pass’. Lily Foscolo was entered for her first grading – grade 6. She demonstrated lovely work to gain a ‘highly commended’.

Congratulations to all gymnasts and thank you to coaches Aimee, Anne, Charlotte, Karen and Sophie for their hard work coaching the girls.

Barry YMCA is looking for future competition hopefuls and will shortly be holding an open day to identify talented children to join their competitive preparation group.

Prospective gymnasts do not need to be able to perform any particular skills; the coaches are looking for children who are strong, flexible and brave enough to try out new things.

If you are interested in your daughter attending this open day please visit the following Facebook page facebook.com/ymcabarry and leave your daughter’s name, date of birth and a contact number. Alternatively contact YMCA Barry on 01446 724001 and leave your details.
