ON Saturday, Barry Athletic Cricket Club held their 125th Anniversary Dinner at The Masonic Hall in Barry, with Phil Steele as the guest speaker.

The night was a great success with over 80 people attending the event for a four-course meal, the new and old mixed on a brilliant night.

Dil Samuel, Gary Morgan, Simon Westphal, Geraint Evans, Rhys Davies, John Clogg and Carl Thomas were seven of the Welsh Cup winning side from 1985 in attendance on the night with Doug Curtin, John Murphy, Alan Storey and Huw Grove, who were also part of the winning side unable to attend.

Other old players from that era who were in attendance on the night were Owain Clements, Tim Clements, Owain Thomas, Billy Davies, Keith Selway, Paul Adams, Peter Robinson, Kelvin Rosser, Colin Davies and Lindsay Bennett.

The dinner was compered by vice chairman Steve (Sticky) Jones, with speeches from 1st Team captain John Gee, chairman Peter Hellyar and a toast by Glan Williams, with Phil Steele having the audience in laughter with his stories of a 20 plus year career with the BBC.

The night was a great success and the club have more planned for the year.

This Saturday Barry Athletic are at home to Blackwood at The Athletic Ground with a 1pm start on Sunday a select side will play Barry Westend also a 1pm start.
