Dinas Powys Wolves FC 1 Barry Town United 1

THE most important game of the season with the hardest opposition visiting Old Bryn y don saw both teams go tooth and nail from the first minute to the last.

Dinas started a lot brighter than recent matches as they set about their jobs in the new system very well. Connor O’Brien was alert early on managing to thread balls through to Kyle Booker who drove with purpose and put Cole Saunders in behind.

As the half wore on the game started to go end to end with both sets of defence looking very strong giving little away.

On the 20th minute Booker found Saunders who cut in to beat his player and thanks to Hewitson drawing his marker wide allowed the Dinas striker time to find the top corner with a great strike. Bayley Harewood and Joe Doughty were getting through so much work in the middle winning a lot of second ball and keeping the pressure on the visitors.

After a quick lesson at the break on how to cope with balls behind Jake Lewis, Jake Frost, Zac Fifield and Robson Mallum showed what old fashioned defending was about as they attacked and covered each other allowing Barry half chances at best.

Quest and Pereira both put in a solid shift on the left tracking their players and stopping the crosses. Kiean was unlucky not to get to a cross at the back post late on.

Barry started to pile on the pressure pushing bodies forward, the home side defending well held out till one slip in the final 10 minutes allowed the visiting midfielder in to loop the ball over the advancing Dylan Morris.

Most sides would crumble under pressure but the home team settled back down into their counter attacking football and Hewitson was dropping in the pocket well sending his partner Saunders through to keep the pressure off the defence and was unlucky not to restore the lead.

Morris was called upon once more in the final few minutes but showed why the lads rate him highly punching the ball wide and clear of danger.

This wasn't a classic but showed two teams giving everything for their shirt.

Man-of-the-match was Callum Hewitson for his discipline and showing football is not all about the things you see but the movement and running most people don't see or realise they do.
