Cwmaman Institute 1 Sully Sports 1

THIS was a first visit for Sully to the Institute in the South Wales Senior League Division One game on a sunny day at Cwmaman.

Sports looked a bit rusty after a few weeks without a game and faced a team they had easily beaten at home; perhaps confidence was a little too high.

The home team were looking for the safety points that would assist them to stay in the top flight and their play showed it as they broke well and caused Sports a few problems early on. A penalty claim for Sports on Alex Long was waved away by the referee and soon after Sports had a Hemmens header cleared off the line and Alex Long headed past the ‘keeper only to see a defender clear.

The tricky Cwm forward was causing problems and he cleverly found a gap and nipped through to beat Hopkins in the Sports goal with a very good finish.

Sports were getting frustrated as Cwm defended well and in numbers with a goal lead.

Sports started better in the second half and were unlucky with some decent moves but the defence stayed sound.

Luke Hanlon entered the fray and his pace caused immediate problems for Cwm but the final ball was eluding everyone. The home team were wasting a lot of time and as their tackles became reckless they sat back deeper and deeper and were looking like they were going to prove a shock as the minutes ticked by.

Time and time again Sports hit the box but the final ball was missing. As injury time beckoned Sports forced another attack and after a few desperate clearances it was full back Wesley Lamb who scored the equaliser as the referee blew up for the end of a frustrating afternoon for Sports.

Next Saturday the match is against Porthcawl away with the home side breathing down the Sully teams’ neck for a game that will no doubt be an interesting encounter.

Vale Of Glamorgan League Division One saw Sports visit local rivals Cogan with the Penarth team coming out on top by 3 -1 with the Sports goal scored by Hywel Arkontopoulos.

The seconds entertain Rhoose Rovers at Sully in the league on Saturday, April 11.

In the South Wales Youth League Sully Sports Youth came back from a goal down in the top-of-the-table clash with title rivals Cardiff Coronation. Two goals for Kieran Miller helped Sully to a 2-1 victory. Sully Youths next game was last night, April 8, against local rivals Holton Road.
