South Wales Senior League Division Two

Llanrumney Utd 0 Cadoxton Barry FC 4

Weekley 3, Oaten

IT WAS a scrappy first quarter of an hour with neither side looking hungry enough to take the game by storm.

But that all changed in the 15th minute when a long ball from Curran found Rhodri Morgan out on the right wing.

His cross towards the far post found Oaten whose shot was well saved.

However, the rebound came out nicely for Weekley to finish from close range. And from this moment the game was mainly one-way traffic in the direction of the Llanrumney goal, a Curran back-to-goal overhead effort going just over following Oaten's corner.

But the home defence dug in to resist the pressure until almost half-time.

Indeed, there were just 15 seconds of first half added time left when a Morgan cross field ball towards the far post found Weekley who, following a neat interchange of passes with Steel buried his second goal from 10 yards.

Straight from the second half re-start Steel curled in a shot that was only just too high.

But in a rare counter Llanrumney broke down the right. However, with all the space and time in the world the shot went high and wide, a bit of a let off for CB.

Then 13 minutes into the half Oaten won the ball in midfield to set out on a solo run with only the 'keeper to beat.

He made a fine save at the first attempt, but Oaten continued to bear down to bury the rebound before the chasing pack could get near enough to clear.

Only two minutes later, a clever bit of ball juggling from Dawson ended with a neat little flick to his right where Weekley was on hand to score from close in to complete a fine hat-trick with his 19th goal of the season.

CB continued to go in search for more goals as an Adams long range shot was well taken by the 'keeper.

But in the 75th minute Llanrumney did create their second and last serious chance of the match when a break down the right ended with a powerful midrange shot that had CB 'keeper Harker jumping to tip over the bar.

With Sam Williams and Ross Matthews on for Steel and Beatty in the closing stages CB continued to bombard the home penalty area with shots and crosses, but it was a fine team passing movement which started at the back on the left side and involved numerous players moving the ball forward in passing triangles that had the fans cheering.

Eventually the ball came out to Adams whose shot curled only just wide of the far post to the right.

As with the previous game, CB might have scored more, but you can't criticise a 4 - 0 away win against a more than useful mid-table side.

Next Saturday Cadoxton Barry come up against fellow title contenders Penrhiwceiber Cons. Penrhiwcieber trail Cadoxton Barry by eight points, but have three games in hand. Thus, they are likely to pose formidable opposition.

However, Cadoxton Barry will be buoyed by the fact that one of only two defeats suffered by Penrhiwcieber in the league this season was at their hands - a 4-1 score-line in CB's favour on a bitterly cold and frosty Saturday afternoon at Penrhiwceiber.

Kickoff is at 2pm at Bryn-Y-Don.
