FIVE entrepreneurs have set up new businesses in the Vale thanks to a bursary scheme led by Creative Rural Communities.

The new businesses range from an online store selling steam punk inspired accessories to a freelance sound recording service for TV and film production companies.

A bi-lingual childminding service and a new clothing company have also been supported through ‘Inspiring the Vale Bursaries’.

CRC, the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s rural regeneration initiative, has encouraged young entrepreneurs in the Vale of Glamorgan to apply for grants up to £3,000 to launch their own business.

Helmanas Lik, who has launched online steam punk accessory store Noble Lion, said: “Thanks to the Inspiring the Vale Bursary I will finally be able to turn my hobby into a profitable business.

“Creative Rural Communities team's trust in my business idea has inspired me to take my project to a whole new level.

“It would have taken me a few years to save up enough money for a successful business start but thanks to the Creative Rural Communities I have the opportunity to make it happen now.”

Claudia James, who is launching a Barry based beauty shop said: "The bursary means a lot to me, it will enable me to get new and upcoming treatments and lots of things I would have not been able to afford straight away. I would just like to thank Creative Rural Communities for all the support and guidance."

This is the second time the scheme project has been run by CRC. Between 2008 and 2011, 23 new businesses were supported - from barbers to photographers and from caterers to those specialising in renewable energy.

Councillor Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Innovation, Planning and Transportation said: "It is so encouraging to see new businesses being created across the Vale of Glamorgan.

"This scheme encourages innovation from our young entrepreneurs. The team at Creative Rural Communities provide the support and encouragement they need to make their dream a reality and we hope we see many more success stories in 2015."
