FIFTEEN pupils across the Vale of Glamorgan have recently been selected to be part of the Vale of Glamorgan’s 2014/15 Young Ambassador programme.

The young ambassador movement aims to empower and inspire young people to become role models and leaders through sport, by developing their confidence and skills in order to increase physical participation in others.

The initiative was launched in Barry Leisure Centre, which included a visit from manager of the Physical Literacy Program for Schools, Dave Goodger, and Young Ambassador Intern, Gareth Janaway, who spoke to the group about how important the work of the Young Ambassadors is to positively impact on physical activity participation. Pupils were also given social media training and worked on a project to be implemented in their schools.

The Vale Council's Sports Development Workforce Development Co-ordinator, Steffan Williams, said: "This is an extremely exciting initiative which will provide an invaluable insight into sports development and empower young people to make their own decisions through consultation, leadership and ownership.

"The Young Ambassadors are excellent examples of young people who inspire people through sport and we hope they will have a huge impact in their school and community."

The Young Ambassador programme is part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sports and Play Development Team’s commitment to growing a skilled and passionate workforce.
