ON Saturday, December 6, at Cardiff Golf Club the WFKO kickboxing club held their annual awards evening. Liam Rees, 17, from Cadoxton, Barry attended.

There were many awards given out throughout the evening to deserving students. One student in particular who has shown outstanding talent was Liam. He was awarded his Second Degree Black Belt. Liam was also presented a shield by Mal Johns president for WOMAA Wales for Sponsored Fighter of 2014.

Liam has had his most successful year in 2014, winning all fights he has entered in advanced boys and men’s 60kg and under.

Liam began the year in May by winning his first title belt. This young fighter showed outstanding skills and talent to win the Welsh Kickboxing Union Title fight.

In July Liam took first place in the WOMAA British Title Series in the men’s 60kg and under.

He continued his winning success in August at an explosive event 'Redemption' which was held in Llantrisant. Fighters were matched for this event prior to it taking place to ensure it was fair. Liam comfortably took the lead and won against an experienced fighter.

In October Liam entered the International German Championships. He travelled to Vilsbibury as part of Team Wales. Liam excelled in the tournament taking gold in advanced boys, gold in the men’s 60kg and under. Liam also went on to win a further gold by fighting a German competitor.

November was the last fight for Liam this year where he once again took first place in the men’s 60kg and under British Series Finals. Liam has shown he really is a top class fighter.
