VALE of Glamorgan League Division Two

Cadoxton Imps 3 - 5 Cadoxton Barry 3rds

Grernaslczyk Greary, Cameron, Gannon,

Lewis 2 Ceesay, Davies

With just 11 players available and the regular keeper injured it was Welsh Vets International, Bobbet, who volunteered to take position between the sticks. And despite CB taking an early lead, by half time he had seen three goals find the back of his net.

But first things first, as it took only two minutes for CB to find the back of the Imps' net with, arguably, the highlight moment of the game. Following a whacking of the CB bar by the Imps, Dalton trapped the clearance on a sixpence before setting off on a whippet-like run down the right flank. With the corner flag looming, he sent over an accurate cross to see Greary side foot home from the edge of the six yard box. Having reached the heights with that goal, it was all downhill from there up until half time for CB.

Just six minutes later an Imps corner from the left set up a bit of a goalmouth scramble from which the ball bounced up nicely for Grernaslczyk to head home. And this was the cue for Imps to start pressurising CB, a crack at goal from the right winger going only a whisker wide of the far post. But it wasn't long before Imps did take the lead. And it came when a looped shot from Lewis dipped beyond Bobbet's reach.

Continued pressure forced Bobbet to infringe and concede a penalty. Had it gone in instead of being fired wide of the left post, there might have been a different outcome to the match. But the fact that CB were still just in touch seemed to lift their game for a short while. But Imps didn't have to wait too long for their third as an Imps player cleverly dummied to set Lewis up for his second goal of the match, blasting home from the middle of the box.

At this stage the visitors looked dead and buried, so it came as a mini surprise when, following further Imps pressure, CB broke upfield to be awarded a penalty as an Imps defender handled from a CB cross. And Cameron stepped up to smash a penalty that no keeper in the world would have had a chance of saving.

CB were, perhaps a little fortunate to go into the interval just a goal down, but the key thing was that it provided the platform they needed if there was to be any hope of turning the game around.

And turn it around they did. It started when, around the 16th minute, Gannon received the ball over on the wing and his returning cross dipped in over the keeper.

The lift that this goal gave CB saw their game suddenly come together as passing movements no longer floundered as the game's pendulum started to swing in their direction. Dalton sent a sizzler just over the bar, but the game was nearly 70 minutes old before Cadoxton Barry eventually managed to retake the lead. And it came from 30 yards, Ceesay's on target free kick being pushed on into the top corner by the keeper.

The imps battled on but never looked close to scoring another and it was Charles Davies who finally dispelled any doubts about the outcome. Ceesay smashed a ball upfield for Davies to chase. He rounded the keeper and hit it into an empty goal.

For a little more than half this match Cadoxton Barry looked likely to come out second best, but their shear grit and determination had to be applauded as they dug in to turn the game back in their direction and garner all three points.
