COLCOT Amateur Boxing Club has been back in business again this week at a show at the RAFA club in Ely hosted by Highfields ABC.

Harrison Day, 10, making his debut, was facing a tough boy in the form of Mohammad Ali (Grange Catholics). Not being fazed by the boy’s famous name, Day took the fight to Ali throwing blistering straight punches forcing his boy to retreat, after three rounds of similar boxing; Day claimed his first win by a unanimous decision.

Buddy Froud was the next Colcot boxer into the ring, up against Creedy Jones (Porthcawl ABC). Froud is improving at every fight and took no nonsense from Jones from the first bell scoring with both hands. Froud won the first and second rounds comfortably but was caught up in a battle for the third with Jones deciding to go all out, but it was too little too late for the Porthcawl lad with Froud being declared winner by split decision.

There was a treat for the audience with Colcot’s Maredudd Thomas and Gwent's Sonny Lee giving a fantastic demonstration of their boxing skills in an exhibition bout. They showcased why these boxers are top shelf athletes who are friends through representing Wales on an international level together. Both boxers gained a special recognition from officials after three rounds of exceptional boxing.
