WITH the third season of the Barry Singles Darts League just a few weeks away, weekly round robin tournaments are being held as a warm up to the league starting.

Last week saw man of the moment Matt Stanger win the tournament by a single point over Richie Williams by virtue of the point he gained in his 2-1 defeat against Richie. Third place was the excellent Dave Davies, fourth saw a return to form for Joel Sheppard with Kevin Sheppard rounding off the top five.

The quality of the night was shown by the number of 180’s being hit by different players (Matt Stanger, Richie Williams and Joel Sheppard), the excellent finishing and the low number of darts thrown to win the legs.

Results on the night were Matt Stanger 1 - Richie Williams 2, Kevin Sheppard 2 - Joel Sheppard 0, Matt Stanger 2 - Jon Hurn 1, Dave Davies 2 - Kevin Sheppard 0, Richie Williams 2 - Jon Hurn 1, Dave Davies 0 - Joel Sheppard 2, Matt Stanger 2 - Dave Davies 0, Richie Williams 2 - Joel Sheppard 0, Jon Hurn 0 - Kevin Sheppard 2, Matt Stanger 2 - Joel Sheppard 1, Richie Williams 2 - Kevin Sheppard 1, Jon Hurn 2 - Joel Sheppard 0, Jon Hurn 1 - Dave Davies 2, Richie Williams 0 - Dave Davies 2

The night proved to be very enjoyable and the league has taken this on board and decided that for the third season each week will be a round robin tournament with points awarded for the position at the end of the round robin, these points counting towards the league standings. This enables darters who cannot commit every week to attend when they can and still potentially qualify for finals night at season end.

As an extra the league is also going to run a doubles tournament involving two games of singles and one game of doubles, with each leg won counting towards league positions.

The singles and doubles leagues will be played on alternate weeks, all at the Barry Island Sports and Social Club each Tuesday from 8pm.
